Auburn Brewing Company will open late this summer in a former service station at 309 N. Main St., its owners announced Monday.

Its founders, Josh and Emma Metcalf, said they have loved being part of downtown Auburn and are excited to include the community in the development and future of their business.

The company had been promoting a contest to guess its location on its Facebook page.

The building dates back to the 1920s, when its occupant was Thatcher’s Silver Flash Gas Station, the Metcalfs said.

“We plan on opening late this summer and keeping the gas station and historic nature of the building. We will be doing some interior and exterior renovations in the coming months,” the couple said in a news release.

“Auburn Brewing Company is dedicated to bringing you fantastic beer made from quality ingredients, many found locally, and brewed in US stainless steel,” the release said. “The brew room will be completely visible through an 8-foot-tall glass wall. One of the most important things for us is making sure people are educated about the brewing process and the beer itself. We are striving for Auburn Brewing Company to be a full experience with being able to smell the beer being made, knowing how it was made and tasting the finished product.”

The company said it will serve snacks and work through agreements with local downtown restaurants and food trucks until its kitchen area is finished.

“Auburn Brewing Company will develop into a local brewpub designed to bring the community together by providing a comfortable environment, offering traditional and modern beer styles, all while sharing knowledge of beer design,” the news release said. Its motto will be “Drink local, learn, interact, and give back!”

“Auburn Brewing Company will strive to be a positive member of the Auburn and surrounding communities, and we can’t wait to share our plans for our ‘Beer4Good’ program,” the company’s announcement said. The company said more information is available through Facebook and Instagram.
