ALBION — Robert Bosch Corp. is bringing new jobs to Albion, and the Albion Town Council took a step to make that easier Tuesday.

The council on Tuesday approved 4-0 a five-year tax abatement on $1.44 million in capital equipment upgrades and new equipment for the plant in the town’s east industrial park.

The new equipment will bring 12 full-time jobs and 18 jobs through temporary agencies, along with preserving 77 existing jobs through temp agencies, said Sue Copas of Bosch.

The average salaries will be $16 per hour, Copas said. The combined total of new salaries will be about $432,000.

Bosch currently employs 205 people at its Albion plant for the automotive arm of its business. Copas said that number has tripled since the plant opened.

Albion town manager Beth Shellman said Bosch will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Albion in August.

The abatement will allow property taxes on the upgrades and new equipment to be phased in over a five-year period.
