Mayor Tom Henry, along with neighborhood and business leaders, announced today Fort Wayne's first Open Streets event.

The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9, will take place along Calhoun Street from the St. Marys River to Williams Street. Open Streets Fort Wayne will temporarily close the street to vehicles and open it to walkers, bicycle riders and roller skaters. The event will also feature activities including large inflatable children's games.

"Fort Wayne continues to be a leader in providing unique opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy," Henry said. "Hosting an Open Streets event is an example of our community's willingness and commitment to bring people together. As a point of destination city, it's critical to have quality of life amenities that attract and retain businesses and residents and enhance our neighborhoods."

Open Streets Fort Wayne is expected to connect the West Central, East Central, LaRez, Hoagland Masterson and Williams Woodland neighborhoods to the Central Business District on Calhoun Street.

The event is family-friendly, free and open to the public. More information can be found at OpenStreetsfw.org
