European Businesses See Expansion Into the U.S. as Key to Growth
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - During a recent trip to Europe, Dale Buuck, vice president of business development at the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, found that investors in Europe remain interested in opportunities to expand their businesses in the United States and that Northeast Indiana is gaining recognition as a lead contender for business expansion. Businesses are noticing the regions stable business climate and low cost of doing business.
"With many of these companies, more and more of their revenue stream is coming from outside their home country." said Buuck. "They see the need to be in the U.S., and they are looking for someone to help them understand the process and guide them along the way. It is exciting to meet with these companies in the first stages of coming to the U.S. and introduce them to Northeast Indiana."
Buuck travelled to Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom from September 30 through October 11. He visited representatives from companies in the medical device, vehicle and advanced manufacturing industries, among others. He also met with a U.S.-based site location consultant and followed up with a UK-based company who visited Northeast Indiana earlier this year.
The trip was intended to promote Northeast Indiana to European companies who have an interest in establishing operations in the U.S. and introducing the region as a possible location. It was also aimed at building the momentum Northeast Indiana has established in northern Italy with companies such as Valbruna, Peg Perego and Coram Group, which all have operations in the region.
As a result of the visit, a second trip to Northeast Indiana is being planned by the UK-based company. Additionally, two more companies expressed interest in visiting the region and learning about potential expansion opportunities.
The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership was formed in 2006 to help build a globally competitive economy in Northeast Indiana. It is a public-private partnership creating business investment by generating business leads, developing product and fostering regional collaboration. In 2010, the Partnership launched Vision 2020 to bring the region together around five key areas for economic growth: 21st Century Talent, Competitive Business Climate, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. The 10 counties of Northeast Indiana include Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley. For more information, visit www.NEIndiana.com.
