Northeast Indiana Delegation Takes over Illinois, Missouri for Major Markets Trip

April 20th, 2017

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A delegation of 11 Northeast Indiana business leaders and economic development professionals, led by the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, recently traveled to central Illinois and St. Louis, Mo. to conduct a Major Markets trip focused on the insurance sector.

The goal was to connect with corporate decision makers and prospective talent to aggressively expand Northeast Indiana’s presence in this strategic Midwestern market.

Over the course of four days, the team completed 15 meetings with business decision makers and location influencers. As a result, the delegation’s visit to St. Louis led to a new business attraction project issued in Northeast Indiana.

In an effort to attract talent to the region, the Regional Partnership engaged insurance industry partners from Ash Brokerage, PHP, Brotherhood Mutual and MedPro to visit three universities including The University of Illinois, Illinois State and Bradley University. The team met with more than 50 students in actuarial science, insurance, business, information technology and finance to connect them with internship and job opportunities in the region. In the upcoming academic year, the Regional Partnership and industry partners plan to welcome students and faculty from central Illinois to Northeast Indiana for a tour.

The delegation included:

  • Kylee Shirey, Ryan Twiss, Hannah Stork, Alan Tio and Sarah Rodriguez of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership;
  • Ryan Fox, Mikalyn Groover and Brian Polk of Ash Brokerage;
  • Keven Linker of PHP;
  • Josh Spencer of Brotherhood Mutual; and
  • Max Johnson of MedPro.

“Our Major Markets trip to the central Illinois directly advances our mission to build, market and sell Northeast Indiana to increase business investment. Thanks to collaboration of our regional economic development and business leaders, Northeast Indiana has and will continue to have a strong presence in central Illinois’ insurance sector,” said Hannah Stork, director of business development for the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.

Launched in 2016, Regional Partnership implemented the Major Markets strategy to accelerate the number of business leads for the region. The strategy’s key components include focusing on cities with a concentration of one or more of Northeast Indiana’s target industries; involving multiple regional stakeholders to represent the region and adding a talent attraction function to our business development outreach.
