Five area hospitals owned and operated by Parkview Health have been recognized for overall excellence in quality, outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial strength by iVantage Health Analytics and the National Organization of State Office of Rural Health.

Parkview's rural acute care hospitals in Huntington, Noble, Whitley, LaGrange and Wabash counties were selected for the honor because they finished in the top 25 percent when measured against their peers nationwide. Hospitals are scored on 66 performance measures.

Four other hospitals in the region received recognition. Lutheran Health Network providers Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton and Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw made the list.

So did independent health care providers Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola and DeKalb Health in Auburn.

Thursday was National Rural Health Day.
