Partnership to get training grant for trades, insurance
Northeast Indiana Works will receive $670,148 in state money to prepare local workers for jobs in the construction and insurance industries, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development announced Thursday.
It is one of 12 regional partnership grants totaling about $7.7 million, the second cycle of the Skill UP Indiana! program, that is used to develop training and education initiatives.
The industry partners for the local grant are Northeast Indiana Building & Construction Trades Council and Northeast Indiana Specialty Insurers. The money is expected to pay for pre-apprenticeship classes for 120 workers seeking jobs in building trades and IT training for 24 adult workers in the insurance industry.
Northeast Indiana will also receive part of a grant to train native Spanish speakers to be community health workers. The nearly $500,000 grant will be divided among five state regions.
