Prairie Farms Dairy plans a building expansion at its processing plant at 3400 Lima Road in Fort Wayne, according to applications filed with the Department of Planning Services.

The company proposes rezoning about one acre for a 22,830-square-foot building addition. The plan also requires vacation of parts of two streets, Norfolk and Figel avenues.

The applications do not specify what the expansion will be used for or if it will increase employment.  Applicant Chuck McQuaig, Prairie Farms’ general manager, did not return a call seeking information Monday.

However, a site plan filed with the applications shows a 26-foot high building off the southeast side of an existing building and a proposed entrance off Lima Road designed with “heavy duty pavement.”

Besides approval of the development plan, the company is seeking a rezoning from general commercial to limited industrial to make zoning conform to the land’s actual use.

The proposals will have a public hearing before the Fort Wayne Plan Commission at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 in Room 35, Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St.
