Project competition sparks millennials’ ideas

Two online projects were selected Friday afternoon as winners of the M2020 Spark Tank competition. Each group of millennials will receive $500 in seed money to bring the ideas to life.

Happening Now Fort Wayne, the first-place winner, will be an interactive website that provides up-to-the-minute listings of local events, including festivals, band bookings and specials at bars and restaurants. The interactive element will allow visitors to leave comments about the events.

The group that proposed the site includes several website developers, who will build and manage the site for free. The startup money will be used for hosting and marketing costs, said Katy Silliman, one of the event’s facilitators.

Business Connect, the second-place finisher, will be a private business social network that allows members to connect at a secure site to form partnerships and share resources.

About 100 northeast Indiana residents ages 15 to 25 participated in the day-long, downtown Fort Wayne event, which generated 13 project pitches.
