Red Star expanding in Whitley County
Red Star expanding capabilities to service medical device clients
LARWILL (May 7, 2013) – Locally based contract manufacturer Red Star Manufacturing, Inc. (Red Star) announced today the company is expanding its Larwill facility and adding new equipment, creating additional jobs by the fall of 2013.
“This project continues our focus on vertically integrating our capabilities to support medical device industry clients,” said Red Star president Scott Werstler, “We are committed to staying at the leading edge of technology and quality assurance.”
Red Star will invest $180,000 to create approximately 1,200 square feet of additional manufacturing floor space at the company’s Larwill facility to house new equipment that will be used to manufacture and maintain insert injection molds. This investment will enhance the company’s in-house capabilities to serve customers involved in products such as biopsy needles, bone access needles, cables, and orthopedic instruments. The company anticipates retaining its seven employees and adding one full-time employee and another part-time employee.
The Whitley County Council today approved a request for phase-in of property taxes on real estate improvements and equipment purchases.
“On behalf of the County Council, I am pleased to support Red Star’s expansion plans,” said Whitley County Council Vice-Chairman Kim Wheeler, “We look forward to working with the EDC to support existing employers like Red Star as they consider new market and product opportunities.”
Since locating Red Star in Whitley County in early 2011, Red Star representatives have participated in the EDC’s Small Business & Entrepreneurship Initiative (SBEI), including completion of the EDC facilitated FastTrac New Ventures program and ongoing engagement with SBDC business advisor Scot Goskowicz. Red Star has received two awards from the EDC’s Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) to launch new projects identified during SBEI coaching and mentoring.
