Research center planned for Electric Works campus
An advanced research and development center has been announced as the new tenant for the Electric Works project.
Medical Informatics Engineering signed a letter of intent to add the center as well as a state-of-the art "virtual presence" training center. Fort Wayne based MIE built a Med-Web network to facilitate electronic data exchange between area hospitals, physicians and healthcare providers.
“MIE has been headquartered in Fort Wayne since the company was launched in 1995, and we plan to continue supporting our community and initiatives like Electric Works that are reinvigorating downtown,” said MIE founder and CEO Doug Horner. “As we look ahead, we anticipate growth in the health information technology sector and the employer and clinical clients we serve and adding more space at Electric Works will help us attract and retain the management, software development and deployment staff needed to support scalable expansion.”
RTM Ventures, the development team behind the transformation of the former General Electrics plant, is excited about the new partnership.
“MIE is an Indiana success story of technology and innovation in health information, and Electric Works is the ideal place to help them continue to grow and expand,” said Jeff Kingsbury of RTM Ventures.
Electric Works is a mixed-use public and private project with RTM Ventures and the City of Fort Wayne. A few weeks ago, the Capital Improvement Board voted to unanimously approve the development, the final in a series of six required approvals.
Electric Works is expected to bring over $300 million to Fort Wayne.
