Plans to create a skate park in Waterloo have received a major boost, the Town Council heard Tuesday night.

The council also took steps toward granting a tax incentive to R.P. Wakefield Co. and vacating a street for the company’s use.

Council members conducted their monthly meeting in the Waterloo Grant Township Public Library’s community room.

Councilman Alex McConnehey reported that the Dekko Foundation has awarded a $50,000 matching grant to Waterloo’s skate park committee. The DeKalb County Community Foundation will handle the grant. The Dekko Foundation will match contributions to the skate park on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $50,000.

Town officials have decided the skate park would be built in a new Veterans Park at the site of the water tower on the town’s south side.
