Staffing service to hire 200 for GM suppliers
Aerotek announced Thursday it was looking to fill 200 open positions with Android and Avancez in the Fort Wayne area. The open positions include assembly workers, material coordinators, maintenance technicians, engineers and other skilled jobs.
The mass hiring comes on the heels of a $14.7 million investment by the two GM suppliers to expand operations in Allen County, announced in August 2017. Android Industries expanded their operations into a 112,000-square-foot building at 13004 Fogwell Parkway, and Avancez, Android's sister company, is leasing 300,000 square feet in a nearby facility at 12808 Stonebridge Road.
Aerotek is looking for general production workers who can lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time and work in a fast-paced environment. The open positions offer a 90-day contract with the potential for permanent employment based on performance and attendance. Hourly pay begins at $11.25 per hour for the first 90 days. Wages depend on the position and worker's experience.
“There is a nice atmosphere here at the plant,” said Terrance Beasley, materials coordinator. “The opportunities are endless with Android/Avancez. I started here just five months ago as an assembler and have already been promoted to a materials coordinator.”
Aerotek account manager Ryan Shell said they have to fill all the positions by July. He said these opportunities will grow Fort Wayne and the people that take the jobs.
"With this opportunity, when they're awarding new business from General Motors - one of our obviously best companies in the Fort Wayne area to work with - it just gives me a lot of hope for Fort Wayne. This community is continuing to grow. Avancez's faciltiy is clean. It's very well ran, very well structured. The opportunity that's in front of you once you get your foot in the door here, the sky's the limit."
Candidates can apply online or in person at Android/Avancez at 12808 Stonebridge Road or Aerotek at 7030 Pointe Inverness Way.
