SuperValu to move work to Fort Wayne

SuperValu Inc. will consolidate its Xenia, Ohio, distribution operations with the Fort Wayne Distribution Center, 4815 Executive Blvd., the company said Thursday.

The local facility has more than 640,000 square feet, compared with 400,000 square feet in Xenia, which employs 120. It is unclear how many employees would relocate to Fort Wayne. SuperValu spokesman Mike Siemienas said the company is working with union officials in Xenia.

SuperValu, which owns the Sav-A-Lot brand, employs 160 at the Fort Wayne site. Teamsters Local 957 officials in Xenia were in negotiations and did not comment Thursday.

In a statement, Eden Prairie, Minn.-based SuperValu said it wants to improve efficiency and better position the business for future growth. It has annual sales of $35 billion with 4,300 stores and 130,000 employees.
