Survey Will Assess Internships, Skill Needs Among Employers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northeast Indiana Works and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership have joined to survey region employers about internship utilization across all industries and skill needs among the top-employing industries.

The survey, being carried out with assistance from the Community Research Institute at IPFW, will be used to enhance and develop regional workforce initiatives and programs, said Rick Farrant, director of communications for Northeast Indiana Works.

“We have a wealth of anecdotal and general information about internships and skill needs, but very little in the way of more comprehensive, region-specific, employer-provided data,” Farrant said. “This survey will be helpful in ensuring a robust regional economy through talent development and attraction.”

Said Ryan Twiss, director of regional initiatives at the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership:  “Supplying employers with people who possess the right skills and experience is becoming increasingly challenging regionally, especially as the unemployment rate drops and the workforce ages. It’s critical that regional employers participate in this survey to help Northeast Indiana promote and support initiatives that meet the workforce needs of regional employers.”

Deadline for completing the survey is December 20. Employers can access the survey by visiting www.ipfw.edu/cri.
