Waterloo train depot to be relocated
Waterloo’s 132-year-old and refurbished train depot will be moved Wednesday morning to the existing Amtrak boarding area to eventually be used again by rail passengers.
Foundation construction is underway, trees have been moved, and crews are preparing for the move of the historic structure, which was built in 1884.
After the depot is moved, construction of new sidewalks and a larger, paved parking lot will begin. The improvements will give passengers better access to the train boarding area. Street lighting, landscaping, road resurfacing and curbs are among the other planned improvements.
Construction is expected to be finished by early June, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house are scheduled for June 24.
