Whitley County EDC, Purdue Partnering

Columbia City -

The Whitley County Economic Development Corp. is partnering with Purdue University to establish a digital manufacturing education program. The EDC says the partnership will help ensure manufacturing companies in the county will be able to stay competitive in the future.

As part of the partnership, the two will send survey assessments to manufacturing businesses to help tailor the program to those within Whitley County. The businesses will receive assistance in adopting digital manufacturing technologies.

"As the U.S. and Indiana manufacturing base moves forward into the future, the digitization of manufacturing data and processes will be a key enabler of future growth and profitability," said Nathan Hartman, associate head of computer graphics technology at Purdue Polytechnic Institute. "Companies throughout the OEM and supply chain levels need to be able to leverage these new technologies and processes to maintain their competitive advantage."

The EDC held a meeting recently with local manufacturing business owners and executives, along with representatives from the Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center programs. The meeting served as a first step in the partnership, which the EDC hopes will help businesses adapt and grow globally.
